Combined MPG = Total Distance (city + highway miles) ÷ Fuel Used (gallons)
Worked example
Driving 180 city miles + 180 highway miles on 12 gallons gives 360 ÷ 12 = 30 MPG combined.
Pro tip: The EPA combined MPG is weighted 55% city and 45% highway. If you do mostly highway driving, your real MPG will likely beat the combined EPA rating.
